March 12, 2021 Violence against Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) has a long history in the United States and stems from racist ideology and practices. While all of us are grappling with the global pandemic, our AAPI community has also experienced a steady and shocking increase in violence, with over 3000 self-reported incidences nationally. In recent weeks, these attacks have intensified with many of the incidents concentrated against elders. CPHA stands in solidarity with our AAPI colleagues and friends to denounce racist-driven behaviors, practices and policies against members of AAPI communities. CPHA denounces the rise in xenophobia and racism against our AAPI colleagues and communities due to coronavirus-related hostility, disinformation and racism. We will continue to simultaneously call out anti-Blackness in our communities and offer our support to our Black colleagues, because white supremacist culture is intersectional in nature. CPHA is committed to building and deepening relationships with AAPI communities and organizations working to advance health equity across the state. Racism is a public health emergency. As an affiliate of APHA, we agree that to achieve health equity and create the Healthiest Nation in One Generation, we must address injustices caused by racism. We must support actions at all levels to ensure equal opportunity for all. CPHA stands in solidarity with our AAPI colleagues to denounce racist-driven behaviors, practices and policies against members of AAPI communities. At CPHA, we are actively working towards becoming an Anti-Racist Organization.
