Meet our 2021-2022 Emerging Leaders Core Cohort!

Lisa Peters, Senior Director
Reimbursement Analyst, Centura Health
Lisa is a new team member at Centura Health! She works on the reimbursement team, helping Centura hospitals with Medicare, Medicaid, and Tricare cost reporting. She assists hospitals with Medicare bad debt and reimbursement analyses, wage index reviews, volume decline and geographic reclassification, and various low volume and disproportionate share hospital applications. Lisa is passionate to support Centura hospitals tackle their healthcare and reimbursement needs.

Prior to Centura, Lisa worked as a Senior Healthcare Consultant through BKD CPA's and Advisors, assisting clients with their reimbursement consulting. During her time there, she served two years as the Chair of the Foundation Committee, BKD’s charitable arm.

Lisa is the Co-Chair of the Aspiring Leaders Committee through the Healthcare Financial Management Association Colorado Chapter. She, additionally, spends time as the Senior Director of Emerging Leaders through the Colorado Public Health Association’s Board of Directors.

In her free time, Lisa loves serving the community. She has served four years on the Young Professionals Board of Boys Hope Girls Hope, raising over $300,000 for Colorado high school students who overcame a challenging or disadvantaged background.

Lisa is a 2019 graduate of Colorado Christian University, Denver, with bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Business Administration. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health through Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and expects to graduate in 2024.

 

Samantha

Samantha Bertomen, Associate Director
Community-Based Organizations Coordinator, Tri-County Health Department

Samantha (she/her/hers) is the Community-Based Organizations Coordinator at Tri-County Health Department. Through this position, she builds community partnerships, manages funding, and provides resources to support long-term recovery from COVID-19. As a Master of Public Health student and Student Senator at the Colorado School of Public Health, Samantha represents her peers and assists in coordinating the university’s annual Emerging Leaders Conference. She serves on several Colorado Public Health Association committees, including the Public Health in the Rockies Conference Committee, the Communications and Membership Committee, and the Public Health Policy Committee.


Samantha previously worked at a non-profit health insurance company, Blue Shield of California, where she organized biometric screenings and flu shot events, implemented virtual wellness programs for clients and their employees, and served as a panelist at large nutrition and fitness events. Applying her undergraduate degree in nutrition, Samantha represented Blue Shield of California as a nutrition expert at events such as Wellvolution, ¡Unidos!, and California Schools Employee Benefits Association.


Samantha aspires to one day apply her skills and experience to supporting foreign health systems and work abroad - she plans to carry out her Master of Public Health student practicum overseas.

 

Halley

Halley Pucker, Health Equity Delegate
Master of Public Health Candidate, Colorado School of Public Health

Halley Pucker (she/her/hers) is a first year Master of Public Health student focusing on Animals, People, and the Environment at the Colorado School of Public Health at Colorado State University. Originally from Wisconsin, she studied microbiology and community organizing, and worked in fundraising for several years before deciding to pursue her MPH. Halley is a first-generation student from a rural community, factors that have majorly shaped her views on how health equity should look. After completing her MPH she plans on pursuing a PhD in epidemiology or disease ecology.

Evaluation Specialist, The Evaluation Center, UCDenver

 Sydney graduated from the Colorado School of Public Health in May 2021 with a Masters of Public Health, concentrating in Health Systems, Management, and Policy. Sydney currently works at The Evaluation Center- UCDenver as an Evaluation Specialist where she supports the data collection and monitoring, coordination, and evaluation of several multi-year grant programs. Throughout her education and previous working experience, Sydney has developed a passion for substance use and behavioral health policy and hopes to expand her knowledge and skills around.

Prior to moving to Colorado, Sydney obtained a B.S. in Exercise Science from Southern Utah University, and enjoys using that background in her personal life while coaching gymnastics, hiking, and backpacking. After a lifetime of traveling and living in Alaska, Brazil, and Utah, Sydney has decided to make Denver her home for now.

Miranda Dally, Membership Delegate
Research Instructor, Center for Health, Work & Environment

Miranda Dally, MS is a research instructor and DrPH candidate at the Colorado School of Public Health’s Center for Health, Work & Environment and Department of Environmental and Occupational Health. As a co-founder of the Climate, Work & Health Initiative she is dedicated to keeping workers and their families safe, healthy, and productive by preventing and reducing health impacts from the changing climate. Her research examines the ways that climate change will impact worker health, safety, wellbeing. She has a particular interest in how increases in occupational heat exposure lead to injury, illness, and impact the ability to work. In addition to this work, she serves as the lead biostatistician at the Center for Health, Work & Environment by providing analytical support to Center faculty and staff on a wide range of Total Worker Health® projects. When she is not immersed in data, Miranda enjoys exploring Colorado's peaks with her spouse, Matt and twins, Genevieve & Evelyn.

 

Mark Mark Daiuto, Public Health Education Delegate
Project Coordinator of Professional Development, UCHealth

Mark currently serves as a research program coordinator at UCHealth's University of Colorado Hospital. In his role, Mark participates in research development and helps manage evidence-based practice programming, the annual Rocky Mountain Interprofessional Research Symposium, UCHealth's Nursing Research Fellowship, and serves as a regulatory coordinator for several clinical research projects.


Originally from Indiana, he has completed his MHA and MPH at Indiana University and previously worked on projects with funding through The American Academy of Pediatrics and The American Medical Association.

Mark aspires one day to influence policy and practice in health systems across the country and will be serving as the administrative fellow at Children's Hospital of Colorado starting in July 2022.

 

Mitchell

Jeni Mitchell, Communications Delegate
Student/ Social & Digital Media Assistant, Colorado School of Public Health

Jeni currently serves as Social and Digital Media Student Assistant for the Colorado School of Public Health in the Office Of Communications and Marketing. In her role, Jeni manages the school's Instagram account, supports in content creation, and website management. In her work, she aims to promote ColoradoSPH as an educational institution and leader in the public health space while also highlighting the school's events and current research.

Jeni earned her bachelor's degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition concentrating in Dietetics and Nutrition Management from Colorado State University in 2018. For the last three years, Jeni has been building her marketing skillset while working for a Colorado-based digital marketing agency focusing in marketing coordination, blog and podcast management, and event planning/organization. Jeni is currently pursuing her Master's in Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health and is concentrating her studies in Community and Behavioral Health.

 

Olivia Coe, Finance Delegate
Office Coordinator, San Miguel County Public Health Department

Olivia Coe has diverse experience working in the private, nonprofit, and public sector centering around managing businesses and programs. Her experience ranges from corporate banking retail management to nonprofit recreation program and festival management, to her current role as the Public Health Office Coordinator for San Miguel County Public Health in Telluride. She has a Bachelor’s degree in business management and many years of experience in managing the operations and financial aspects of the organizations for which she has worked. Public Health has struck a chord with her because she feels as though she is doing what she can to help her community become a better place in her role. She is excited to lend her experience to the ELC and in turn learn and grow for her interactions and collaborations with her fellow team members.
