Public Health Associate Program Recruitment Begins!
CDC is pleased to announce the kickoff of the 2017 Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) recruitment season. PHAP is looking for qualified associate and host site applicants, and we need your help spreading the word. The associate application period will be January 3–9, 2017 (through USAjobs), and host site application period will be January 3–19, 2017 (through a link on the PHAP website).
- PHAP is a two-year, on-the-job training program funded by CDC. Associates are assigned to state, tribal, local, and US territorial public health agencies, nongovernmental organizations (community-based organizations, public health institutes and associations, and academic institutions), and CDC quarantine stations.
- Currently, PHAP has more than 375 public health associates fulfilling hands-on workforce needs at host sites across 44 states, 2 territories, and the District of Columbia.
- PHAP is recruiting candidates with bachelor’s- and master’s-level degrees who have an interest in a public health career. PHAP provides opportunities for associates to gain broad, hands-on experience in the day-to-day operation of public health programs.

Social Media Challenge: Why should Public Health Prevention Funding matter to YOU?
Congress reconvenes this week to begin work on repealing the Affordable Care Act, which would threaten to eliminate the Prevention and Public Health Fund. PPHF funding is used to enhance community-based preventive health programs at the local level and help prevent and respond to infectious-disease outbreaks. Learn more about how this fund affects your community.
We would like to capture stories from our members about the importance of public health programs in our communities. Please submit a photo by tagging CPHA’s Facebook page and/or Instagram @ColoradoPublicHealth with a brief explanation of the photo using the hashtag with #KeepPPHF using the following prompt: "Prevention and public health are important to my community because..."
We will compile all pictures and stories received by the end of the day on Thursday, January 5 and share them with APHA and our congressional delegates. 3 talented winners will be chosen to receive a free year of CPHA membership. Hi everyone,
Just a couple of weeks ago, Denver hosted the largest public health conference in the world. More than 12,000 visited our state for the American Public Health Association’s Annual Meeting to network, share experiences and learn from one another. For me, the event brought one of the most fun experiences I have had professionally: the opportunity to welcome a crowd of thousands at the Opening Session and introduce Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper. It was an incredible honor to represent the Colorado Public Health Association and thank the audience for what they do and who they are – relentless optimists.
Advancing public health is not easy. It never has been. I believe hard times are the impetus for solidarity and that challenges are the foundation for opportunity. Whether you’re a member or not, I’d like to extend an invitation to you to help realize CPHA's vision to make Colorado the healthiest state in the Union. In partnership with the Colorado Society for Public Health Educators (COSOPHE), the Public Health Nurses Association of Colorado (PHNAC), and the Colorado Environmental Health Association (CEHA), CPHA is launching the Colorado Public Health Webinar Series to share new learning and professional development opportunities. These lunchtime webinars will be a tremendous way to connect you to a positive, passionate movement in support of great health for all.
