values

The Emerging Leaders Committee has multiple statements which identify our core values to best serve the Colorado public health community at-large.

 1. The Emerging Leaders Committee purpose is to support the functions of CPHA. We seek to attain our vision and accomplish our mission through three core areas of work:

Professional education: Providing a welcoming forum to advance public health education, knowledge and expertise through a variety channels, including the annual Public Health in the Rockies state conference and support of other conferences, seminars and workshops.

Policy and advocacy: Providing opportunities for CPHA members to be informed and active public health advocates through the CPHA Public Health Policy Committee, our legislative trainings and briefings, and professional advocacy efforts, as well as plans for strengthening legislative work in key districts and increasing CPHA's state and national profile.

Professional development:  Expanding and strengthening the public health network in Colorado through support of networking actives, including CPHA Connects (educational and social events), CPHA Outside (recreational events), the Colorado Public Health Mentoring Program, and other formal and informal learning opportunities.

2. APHA and CPHA have opened up avenues for change by acknowledging that structural racism and white supremacy hard and impacts the health and lives of black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) at disproportionately high rates. The Emerging Leaders Core Cohort of Delegates invite you to get involved, learn and help change the status quo.

CPHA has defined Health Equity to be the active assurance that everyone is afforded the opportunities essential to attaining their highest level of health. In alignment with CPHA's commitment to health equity and diversifying the public health workforce, the Emerging Leaders Committee strives to promote a culture of inclusiveness, respect, communication, and understanding. We encourage involvement from those who identify as women, racial and ethnic minorities, persons with disabilities, and veterans.

Discrimination based on race, gender expression or identity, creed, color, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, or veteran status by any individual or unit of this organization is prohibited. If you have any concerns, please contact the Director of Emerging Leaders. If you do not feel comfortable approaching the Director, please direct your concerns to the Associate Director or another trusted individual within CPHA.

3. We are committed to excelling the development of the Colorado public health community through students and early career professionals.

The Emerging Leaders Committee is dedicated to this purpose by providing the following opportunities: ELC Core Cohort, Explore Public Health Biennial Program, Colorado Public Health Mentorship Program, and ELC quarterly professional development and volunteer programming.
