Past Presidents Club

A forum for any of the CPHA Past Presidents to connect and exchange information, including providing input on Association policies and activities. Past Presidents, please join!

Students

The Student Committee, currently headed by two elected Co-Directors, maintains linkages to public health training programs in Colorado, represents the interests of students studying in public health fields and promotes Student Membership in the Association.

Membership

The committee develops and implements a Membership plan that includes recruitment and retention of Members in the Association. The committee shall also engage in organizational development activities such as press and public relations.

Public Health Policy

CPHA's Public Health Policy Committee is chaired by elected Public Health Policy Board Director, who initiates the policy and legislative activities of the Association.

Professional Education

The main objective of CPHA’s professional education efforts is to lead the execution of the annual Public Health in the Rockies (PHiR) Conference each year.

Communications

CPHA Communications Committee works on increasing CPHA’s visibility amount internal and external audience, as well as promote networking and dialogue among members.

CPHA President Brian Turner Speaks To Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police 

On Thursday February, 16, 2017 CPHA President Brian Turner spoke about Mental Health First Aid at the Mid-Year Conference of the Colorado Association of Chiefs of Police in Evans, Colorado

Mental Health First Aid is a groundbreaking, 8-hour certification course designed to teach participants to recognize the signs and symptoms of a mental health challenge or crisis, and give them the tools to appropriately respond.

In his presentation, Brian described a specific public safety module designed for law enforcement participants and engaged participants in the effort underway to extend this training statewide as a complement to Crisis Intervention Training for the law enforcement community.

3. Submit an opinion piece in support of the ACA/PPHF to your local paper (a template can be requested by emailing [email protected]). You can see a sampling of letters/op-eds that have been successfully published on the "APHA members speak out" page.

Colorado's Budget Committee Makes Key Recommendations On Public-Health Spending

The state's Joint Budget Committee held its "figure setting" hearing this week for the Department of Public Health and Environment. Over a period of four hours, the JBC members made decisions about which line items to fund and how much money to approve for each item in the FY17-18 budget. 

CPHA's legislative staff at Frontline Public Affairs has produced a four-page report that covers information on funding for a variety of items, including Amendment 35 and tobacco settlement funded programs, oral health, Local Public Health Agencies, air quality, water quality, rural landfills, Commission on Affordable Health Care, HIE, and Health Facilities inspections. 

Frontline notes that some items are at risk of not being included in the introduced Long Bill due to a possible 3-3 tie vote on the JBC.
