CPHA Joins in Denouncing Immigration Executive Order
February 6, 2017
On Jan. 27, Trump signed an executive order that would restrict the admission of certain foreign nationals and refugees to the United States under the guise of protecting the nation from foreign terrorists. The Colorado Public Health Association is dedicated to promoting a diverse and culturally inclusive membership, and we have serious concerns about the impacts of the President’s recent actions. CPHA unequivocally believes that our state and country are greatly enriched by the diverse perspectives and experiences of all Coloradans, and CPHA is strongly committed to the inclusion of all of its members.
As stated by APHA, CPHA is also deeply concerned that this executive order will “reduce US science and engineering output by discouraging the best and brightest international students, scholars, and scientists from studying and working, attending academic and scientific conferences, or seeking to build new business in the United States.”
We will continue to welcome all members and also highly encourage everyone to join CPHA in showing our solidarity in the following ways:

Students
The Student Committee, currently headed by two elected Co-Directors, maintains linkages to public health training programs in Colorado, represents the interests of students studying in public health fields and promotes Student Membership in the Association.
Membership
The committee develops and implements a Membership plan that includes recruitment and retention of Members in the Association. The committee shall also engage in organizational development activities such as press and public relations.
Public Health Policy
CPHA's Public Health Policy Committee is chaired by elected Public Health Policy Board Director, who initiates the policy and legislative activities of the Association.
Professional Education
The main objective of CPHA’s professional education efforts is to lead the execution of the annual Public Health in the Rockies (PHiR) Conference each year.
Communications
CPHA Communications Committee works on increasing CPHA’s visibility amount internal and external audience, as well as promote networking and dialogue among members.

Submit an abstract — Deadline Feb. 20-24
Welcoming abstracts related to all areas of public health, including those that coincide with the theme “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Climate Changes Health.” View instructions and tips on how to submit an abstract!
Organize a pre-conference Learning Institute — Deadline Feb. 10
Help your colleagues gain practical skills in public health practice by conducting a Learning Institute. These full- or half-day skill-building courses offer an interactive educational experience. Proposals that address competencies such as biostatistics, epidemiology, data management, public health informatics and systems thinking are encouraged.
2016 Annual Meeting Presentations
While you work on your abstract for the 2017 Annual Meeting, consider taking a look at presentations from APHA’s 2016 Annual Meeting. APHA recorded presenters during sessions and synced their voice with the movements of their presentation. These recordings, packaged as RAMP, are now available for sale. We hope you will submit an abstract and join APHA in Atlanta! |

You can create a team and compete with one another or against other teams. When you join you’ll be able to track how many steps you take, see total steps for our team and the collective progress of all teams toward the goal of 1 Billion steps.
